This is a picture of an eagle on Blackstone Lake. I really didn't want to go back to Blackstone Lake, but after reviewing my notes from the trip in 2001, I decided that it would DEFINITELY be worth the extra effort.
Man, I really wished I had a better camera..........This eagle jumped from its perch. I'm not too sure what it was after, but it looked pretty cool...............This was taken with 10x digital zoom on my camera. You can tell that it is highly "blown up", but it looks pretty good still.
After 8 hours of paddling..........From near Boundary Point to McEwen, we were bushed...........
Bell with a decent smallmouth from Saganagons. This fish was over 4lbs. What a GREAT start to a GREAT fishing trip. I cannot wait until next year.
What a site...............I think this was on Saganagons........I'm not too sure, but I do know the coffee and cocoa hit the spot that night. This is probably one of the hilights of the trip for me.
Dueling 4lb smallmouth............actually, I think both of these were near 4, but not over. They were both caught near Boundary Point on Saganagons.
This is a really cool rock formation on Saganagons near Boundary Point. I'm not too sure what it means, but someone told me that Native Americans sometimes build rock formations like this. At any rate, I thought it was pretty cool.
Geo with another decent smallie. This one was also pushing 3lbs. It was taken on Slate lake.
What a beautiful Saganagons smallmouth...........This fish was caught using a new method. One that may just surpass the Magic Bait. I believe this fish was pushing 4lbs.
Yes........I am an IU FAN..............YES, it was pretty cold that day..........YES they are heavy...........YES, they were caught on the magic bait. These, along with the fish above were caught somewhere near Saganagons.
Getting ready for some FOOD. This was fish night on Saganagons.
A peek inside this cabin (small crack in door), revealed magazines from 1970. WOW. I know, not that old, but still pretty cool.
More artifacts from the above cabin site. I've heard of this stuff being up there, but have not had the opportunity, until now, to see some of it up close...........some view this as junk.......others view it a a piece of history...........what do you think.
Spikes from an old boat dock near the cabin above. The cabin above is actually part of a cluster of about 4 or 5 buildings.
Chms with a really decent smallmouth from Saganagons. This fish is over 3lbs. On this particular day, Chms and Gadgetman caught over 90 smallmouth, and who knows how many northerns. Bell and I managed to catch nearly 80 fish, with 20 being over 3lbs. Gadget and Chms fished traditional spots usin
Yet another smallmouth from Saganagons. Look closely..........do you know where we are? In this picture, the far bank produced over 30 smallmouth. ALL of these fish were caught within the frame of this picture. NO CRAP.
Geo with a smallmouth from Saganagons............At least I think it was Saganagons.......I might actually be Slate Lake.
Gadgetman and Chms at the campsite on Saganagons. This was a 3rd campsite of the trip. This campsite is near Boundary Point.
The Guys...........from Left to right..............Chms, Gadgetman, Bell, and GeoFisher.
The same waterfall on the falls chain.
A fire on McEwen. McEwen had a pretty good firepit area. A great view of the lake, and a pretty well established firepit.
This is the waterfall from McEwen to Wet lake. I thought it was pretty cool looking.
The guys at the McEwen Campsite.
I ended up wet footing all the portages going into McEwen..........so my boot are pretty nasty. Here, I'm taking time to try to dry them.
This is the beach/landing area on McEwen Lake. Of all the places I've been in Quetico, this is one of the best. The fishing was pretty good, I caught lakers for the first time, and the campsite really is a 5 star campsite. This was also a milestone trip for me..........it was the first real trave
Does anyone know where this was taken? I'm not going to tell, and......please don't post your responses on any website. I'd like to keep it as secret as possible..........All I will say is that it is somewhere in Quetico......or the BWCA...........or out of the park..........but it is up there.
4lb Saganagons smallmouth. This fish, as with most smallmouth, and most other fish for that matter, were let go.
What a MONSTER northern. This pike was over 14lbs on the digital scale. It wore Gadgetman out, and DESTROYED his favorite fishing reel.
And of course, you cannot visit Cache Bay without viewing the pictographs. This is the 3rd trip to the pictographs for me..............I wonder what they mean.........On this particular day, the markings could easily be a primitive type of "spankometer".
GeoFisher's first lakers....................These were cleaned whole, sprinkled with lemon pepper and olive oil butter (fleishmans brand), and baked in a hot bed of coals. We added Stove Stop stuffing as a side dish. Man talk about GOOD.
Gadgetman with a laker caught from McEwen. These are really good fish. YES........this one also went into the foil, smothered in butter, and lemon pepper.....but the side for this dinner was........Red Beans and Rice............MMMMMMMMM
The guys for this group...........GeoFisher, Chms, Bell, and Gadgetman. This group was one of the best that I have gone with to the Boundary Waters or Quetico. Chms introduced me to the BWCA 7 years ago, and is a GREAT friend. Gadgetman is one of my best fishing buddies.........and Bell.......he
